I am having problems trying to backup one certain sql database.
I have the sql NW client installed on the server and the normal NW client is also installed. I can backup the drives but trying to backup the sql it just fails.
MSSQL: is in the Saveset box and nsrsqlsv is in the backup command box.

Does anyone have any idea's whats going wrong any help would be apreciated ?

Can you tell more:
OS version?
SQL version?
Networker version?
SQL Module version?
Error message?

Have a look in /nsr/applogs on the SQL Server

With the information you've provided, I know exactly what the problem is.

Excellent, care to share that knowledge, i would be extremely grateful.

Sure, no problem. But just to make sure its the problem I'm thinking of, please post the error message for the SQL backup, as found in the daemon.log on the Networker server. Also post any errors found in the /nsr/applogs directory.

The Daemon error messages are.
* revs_database:MSSQL: nsrexec: authtype nsrexec
* revs_database:MSSQL: 1 retry attempted
* revs_database:MSSQL: nsrexec: authtype nsrexec
* revs_database:MSSQL: 2 retries attempted
02/29/2004 11:05:59 PM nsrd: runq: NSR group SQL_Backups exited with return code 1.

02/29/2004 11:05:59 PM nsrd: runq: NSR group SQL_Backups exited with return code 1.

The applogs directory is empty.

Any idea's ?

Yep, that authtype error is an error authenicating. Are you using the Remote user and password fields for the SQL client revs_database on your Networker server? If not, then what account are you using to start the Networker Remote Exec service on the SQL client? Does this account have full access sa rights on your SQL installation?

Hi Serbtastic,
I've semilar problems backing up & recovering mssql Server,
I realized You'r hint regarding the authentication issue and so I added the user "sa" as the remote user and also his password. I got the following error-message during startup of the Backup:

* DB-client:MSSQL: rcmd DB-client, user sa: `savefs -s backup-server.company.de -c DB-client -g FILESYSTEM_DB -p -l full -R -v -F MSSQL:'

* DB-client:MSSQL: Cannot authenticate user: Anmeldung fehlgeschlagen: unbekannter Benutzername oder falsches Kennwort.

* DB-client:MSSQL: 03/24/04 10:42:16 nsrexec: Cannot authenticate user: Anmeldung fehlgeschlagen: unbekannter Benutzername oder falsches Kennwort.

where "DB-client" is the client
and "backup-server.company.de" is the Legato Networker Server

It says something like unknown user or password but the user /password works localy on the client. Do I have to configure remote Access permissions?

some help would be nice.

Kind regards, spaceball

Remote Access is only used for recoveries - not for backups.
For backup authentication, you need to specify the Remote User/Password combination in the client resource.

The NW SQL Admin Guide clearly states:
To enable the NetWorker Module to back up the SQL Server
virtual server, enter the
user name for a Windows user account that has SQL Server administrator privileges.

Hi 605,
I understand. Actually I got the hint that there is a known bug by using mssql-Server version 7.00.623. It causes hangups of incr. recoveries. It should be solved by installing MS SQL Server SP3, patchlevel 7.00.961. I'm still investigating if I could force the DBA to install the patch...
I'll come back to this discussion later on.

Regards spaceball

Hi 605,

My problems recovering an incremental Backup are solved since I installed sp4 (patches SQL Server towards rev. 7.00.1063) today.
Now I'm able to restore full and incremental backups.

Regards spaceball
