NO
We have recently installed Veritas Enterprise Administrator to use mirroring for our clusters.
Does anyone know about problems with SQL server 2005 and the use of Volume Manager Disk Group?

sH

Do you actually have a problem or are you just looking to see if anyone knows of one before implementing?

The only issue I know is if you don't have SP1 + post SP1 hotfix installed, Data Mirroring isn't "official" and you have to do a few tricks to turn it on. I believe MS fully activated it with SP1.

ok, I see...
well, I just wanted to hear if anyone knew about known problems with sql server 2005 and using this veritas product.
we're moving out sql cluster next weekend, so I thought I should check for any known problems before moving it.

thanks for the tip

another question:
are there any limitations regarding things like mirroring when it comes to different editions of the sql server 2005?
does it only support a certain edition like enterprise?

sH

It's only available in Developer, Enterprise, and DataCenter/64 bit addition.

The Standard edition contains a Safety FULL only (not sure what that means). Express & Express with Advanced Services can only be Witness Servers, they can't be on either side of the mirror.

See for more details on the different features available in the different editions of SQL 2k5.

so what you're saying is that standard edition of sql server 2005 would not work with Veritas Enterprise Administrator to use for mirroring?

sH

I don't know. We don't use Standard at my workplace and I'm not sure what the Safety FULL thing is. You'll have to do more research.

I think you are getting your terms confussed. SQL Mirroring has nothing to do with Veritas Mirroring.

I'm not sure if using a Disk Manager other that MSCS is supported with SQL Server. You'd want to check with Microsoft to be sure.

Any reason that you don't want to use MSCS?

Ah, Denny. I think you are correct. I misunderstood the question.

Sorry about that.

yes, I do know that SQL mirroring has nothing to do with the veritas storage foundation 'mirroring'.
we are starting to use the veritas bacause we have linux, unix and windows servers (all clusters) running in a hot-hot environment with 2 SAN-boxes. that is why we want to use the veritas software for doing mirroring of all the servers.
(my question was simply to find out if there was any known problems using SQL Server 2005 with Veritas Storage Foundation) thanks for all answers and comments.

You'd have to check with PSS to be sure. Microsoft presales support can probably answer the question as well without making you pay for a PSS ticket.
