sql 2005 net send - how do you test it?

ok, so net send is not the preferred method of communication, but in sql 2000 there was a button that would allow you to test the netsend or email for the operators. I converted to sql 2005 back in March and only recently did one of the operators get a new machine name --- they were wondering why they were not getting the alerts.

THAT is when I noticed that there is no way to test the net send or email name within the operator properties - or am I missing something?

Nope, the test buttons went away.

so no way to make sure you have the right email addy or computer name now? wow - sounds like some marketing major decided to help out in Development...

Yeah, it probably wasn't there brightest plan.

You can manually test the email addresses via the sp_send_dbmail or xp_sendmail procedures (depending on which mail sub-system you are using).
