I want to give certain users access to our database via VPN. It appears that SQL2K has a fault ( regarding users who connect to the host system via VPN. I installed SP2 to fix this method, to enable users to connect...

Our database server, is also our internet server. It has a broadband connection, & we use ICS to share this connection amongst the client machines on our lan.

As soon as SP2 was installed, ICS no longer functioned properly. It looks to me like some kind of security protocol was altered. Normal browsing would work (e.g. loading a normal webpage). However, as soon as anyone tried to submit information into a webserver (such as submitting a search on this website), they would return the dreaded 404 error.

I tried following the microsoft instructions for removing SP2, but this did not work. I ended up having to reinstall the operating system, which has proved most time consuming.

Has anybody else encountered a similar phenomenon?

This is probably the wrong forum, but does anybody know if it is possible to host the internet connection on one of our client machines (mine probably), & still being able to connect to the SQL server database contained on the server??? James Goodman
