I tried to connect to SQL 2000 from a client machine running win2k pro. If I typed in URL like then everything works fine, but if I typed in actual IP address then it says server not found. I tried registering using both client network utility and enterprise manager directly, and failed both ways. Please help me, thank you!

Hi youngun,
Did u try changing the default port to TCP/IP from Named-pipe or something else?
If yes, then, try pinging the ip which u give and check whether things are ok with the ip

Cheers
Hope this helps

All I did was using client network utility and add a new connection by TCP/IP. When I type in IP address and then tried to register in enterprise manager, it didn't work; but when I typed in URL in the client network utility, then I could register in the enterprise manager.
