actually brdid 254 means thats the board has no firmware loaded. you can always reload a new firware with the CNBLI command in that board status.
Opion, to answer your question, I'm not really sure about this:
to have VSU functionality on the SPU4 board you should load firmware CAA1580049 (VSF3), but the firmware clearly states the board should be an SPU4/11 which is the 19" version.
