Picture this: two Win98 computers with a broadband router. The two computers share files, and have the same version of Office 2000 on them. One computer has a Sharp copier/fax/printer on it, and works fine.
The other computer can print to the Sharp (via workgroup share) fine from "test page", from MS Word and MS Excel. However a spooler error occurs when printing from Powerpoint, even if only a single page.
Once the error occurs, the computer must be rebooted before ANY application can print on the Sharp.
I remember there were issues with Spooler on Win98.
I have confirmed that the printer drivers (rather old) are the latest available.
I have saved the powerpoint and can print it no problem from the other computer, who has the Sharp on its parallel port.
I'm pondering moving the sharp temporarily to the other computer to see if the problem follows (and begins to occur on the other machine) or if it's a problem within windows on the crashing machine.
I'm also pondering on making the printer a network printer, with an IP address (presuming this old sharp takes a network card) or a cheapie print server. If this were to work, it would suggest the problem is within windows/workgroups/printer sharing
Any ideas or anyone with specific experience with Win98 spooler aborts?
