Howdy:

Outlook Express uses the spelling checker provided with the following Microsoft Office programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. If you do not have one of these programs installed, the Spelling command is not available.

In the New Message window, click Spelling on the toolbar, or on the Tools menu, click Spelling.

Ergo, if you have none of the above installed, you won't have spell check available !!

Does your friend have one of the programs that SESaskDFC mentioned? That's why his works.

BTW, MS Works is anothyer program that will also install a speller that can be used in OE.

I had the same trouble 2/3 weeks ago . I have a new computer with XP and OE6 . Was having a real hassle with the invisable spell checker . Did a thorough net search and found

There is a file missing from OE6 . How long has Microsoft being doing these programs ? Maybe they dont need to use a Spell checker and didnt test it to see if it worked

BTW You still need Works for Windows or a Works 97 program as OE uses the spell checker thats built into to these . OE 6 is just missing the file that allows access to these

Happy Days .........

SESaskDFC is right!
You have to have one of the following installed. Your friend must have it if his is working...

Note

To customize the way your spelling checker works, on the Tools menu, click Options, and then select the Spelling tab.
