Spell and grammar problems

I am Running windows 98. I have very few programs apert from Explorer 5.5 and Microsoft Office 97.

The spell and grammar checker will not respond when using Word, Excel and Explorer.

I have checked the configuration and properties and all seems to be in order. I still get no response. Twice, I have uninstalled Windows and Office 97 and reinstalled from alternative disks. Again, no response. Could someone kindly help me with this problem? PS. Two computer buffs have also tried (and charged me), with the same result.

try this on the Word or Excel:
1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2. Click the Spelling tab.
3. Specify the options you want, and then click Apply.
