Is there a way to determine the speed for a point to point connection between 2 Cisco routers, 1 1720 and 1 2600? We recently changed from a Frame Relay connection to a deicated T1 and it actually seems slower!

Thanks.

Check your routers and make sure one side is setup to be service-module t1 clock source internal. If no clocking could be a timing issue. T1 p2p providers do not usally provide any line clocking and the default for cisco t1 cards is to get clocking from the line. Also do a show interface serialXX and look at the error statistics...look for CRC errors...frame errors....

Also you said you changed from a frame relay, could the bandwidth statement have been configured for the frameraly and no removed when you changed to t1?

Visit for free Cisco rack access.

The bandwidth statement is only used by routing protocols when calculating the routing metrics (for protocols that use tha bandwidth value in the calculation such as OSPF & EIGRP). The bandwidth stement is also used when generating statistics such as when you do a 'show interface serial x'. A JOAMON said look at the clocking if it is a true T1 link as you would generally generate a clock at one end and derive the clock from the incoming signal at the other end (master and slave like).

If you have a true T1 you could try the 'show controllers t1' command to see whether there are errors on the link?

Thanks for the replies. The clocking is internal on the router at our mail office and line at the remote. I'll check for errors. Our ISP says they ran tests and there is no problem with the line. But of course, I would expect them to say that.
