I am really hoping that someone can help me. Our office got the Avaya phone system installed a week ago and I am in charge of making sure it all works now that the techs are gone. I have managed everything pretty well they did leave me with ip office install and the admin passwords to get into it. I am trying to make the speed dials work everything I have read said that I can program speed dials from 600-699 and then by pushing a button and the programmed number it will call that number. Unfortunately the company that install my system has no idea how to make this work. I can program the directory but not the speed dials. Any thoughts??? Any option is better then what we have.

thanks,

Because you mention 600 through 699, it leads me to believe your system is in "Basic" mode.

1.At either of the first two extensions on the system, press Admin.
2.Use the up or down arrow buttons to scroll the display to Telephone Programming. When highlighted,
press Select.
3.Use the up or down arrow buttons to scroll the display to System Speed Dial. When highlighted, press
Select.
4.At the Code: prompt enter 600 to 699 to select the speed dial entry to edit.
5.The current setting of the speed dial entry is displayed.
6.Enter the external number and press Enter. Press Clear to remove any existing number.

Exit programming by pressing PHONE. Alternatively use the Back button to move to another menu.

You can do this with Essential Edition. The reference number of the directory entry should match 600-699. You should then be able to press the directory button, dial the "speed dial" number and call.

If vegetarians love animals so much, why are they eating all of their food?

I'd also be searching for a new Avaya partner. If I left a customer with no post-install support and told them "I just don't know how" I would be out of a job.

Star for DaIPOTek because that is exactly what should happen.
If you buy a system from a cheap place and they install it without having a clue then go out and buy yourself a couple of hours of support from a good company and get your issues resolved.

Another * for DaIPOTek

your installer is incompetent (as confirmed by there admission that they do not know how to perform this task)

I will admit that I am not sure either but that is because we will not install muppet basic mode as it is simply unfit for purpose.
however if I was forced to work on one & asked this question I am sure a few moments with the manual/helpfiles would reveal the answer. I would certainly never tell a customer "I don't know sorry I cant help" the worst response I would ever give would be something like "Let me check on that & I will get back to you".

* also given to Touch Toe Tommy as he has given what looks likely to be the correct answer

Okay, So I have read all your comments; I do agree, unfortunately I purchased my phone system from the only company that is available to me as I live in a remote community. I have 24 extensions on my system, and if I read correctly I need to go to one of the first two extensions. The reason I mentioned 600-699 is because one of the you tube video I was watching to learn how to use this system mentioned this. I have put the directory into the Avaya office and it is accessible but only if I scroll through the list; this is inefficient for our use. I have about 100 speed dials that we use daily for our suppliers. When I entered the directory the guy who install it told me to add new but always make sure that it doesn't assign the directory entry a number. I am assuming that this is incorrect as well. My apologises if I sound like I am asking a lot of questions but I really need to get this fixed. I have added a screen shot as well how do I tell that mode I am in.

Export the directory to a csv file and edit it in excel, add a speddial nuber to each record starting with 000 upto 999.
Create a shortcode starting with a unused leading digit or with a # like this/
SC = 6XXX
TN = N
Action = Speed Dial
LineID = 0

Then you can dial speeddials by their short number #000 upto #999
Using the 1408/1416/1608/1616 then you can press the directory button and dial by name using the lettered button. So if you want to call Santa press directory 72682

That is essential edition and you can use anything for the speed dials, I would use *600-699 as this would not interfere with your dial plan more than likely.
Go to short codes
right click on the tab and select new
code would be the number to use for this speed dial *600 ect..
feature should be dial or dial 3k1
telephone number should be your access code plus the telephone number you want to dial
line group is you ARS group more than likely 50 for the main ARS.
OK this and then start over till you enter them all.
I would test after the first one to make sure it works correctly.

I don't know which country you are in but there are usually many providers who have national coverage (We cover the whole of the UK and most of the VMP's in the list on the right have similar coverage areas).

I am sure there must be providers in the US that have at least statewide coverage.
Tek-tips is not intended to supply free support to end users (Althouh we are a friendly bunch & will help within reason).

well that is exactly the WRONG advice :-(

if a director number has an index then that index can be used to call the number - either by a short code with a feature of Speed Dial or a handset button (Again with a feature of Speed Dial)
earlier assumptions of Muppet Basic mode appear to have been incorrect

Okay so I have tested the first number and put it in. what do I push to access the short codes again I apologies if the question seem uneducated but they really showed us nothing.

a possible example would be:

Shortcode: #xxx
Telephone Number:N
feature Speed dial

this would enable you to dial by index after dialling #, for example dial #000 to dial directory index 000.

BTW it is usual to thank people who provide good advice/answers by awarding star (Click the great post link in the bottom corner) it keeps up the good will.

If you followed my example dial *600 from any phone and it should dial the number.

IPGuru has the best solution. I don't like building speed dial lists in the short codes it gets messy. Star for reminding me of the Speed Dial feature. I have found that most customers these days are fine searching through the directory on the phone using the keys to type the name of the contact.

Thank you for all your help I will work on this today and see if I can get it. To IPGuru: I am in Canada; remote northern Canada. And thank you for the star advise I will definitely be doing that you have all been very helpful.

Hmm I wonder what a company named TimberMax in Northern Canada does ;) Maybe one of the Canucks on here will be able to get you the name of a competent partner.

Northern Canada is as remote as the middle of the Sahara, just colder :)
This country is big and the North is not great on resources.
That also explains why the installer didn't care. Competition is scarce in the area.
