Users are stating that speakerphone calls across IP trunks have horrible call quality. When they abandon the speakerphone and pick up the handset the call quality clears right up. I've already gone through speakerphone protocol with them. [no shuffling papers, no clunking down your coffee cup...etc] Any ideas?

Thanks,

Phil

I would like to know as well as we have a similar problem with users on a s8300 LSP trying to access voicemail remotely on speakerphone. The call quality is very poor.

Make sure you keep the telephone free of any cell phones. I've noticed the speakphone is interrupted by nextels and other wireless devices.

speaker phones have the habbit of shutting down the mic below a certain sound/noise level( vox funtionality).
Most IP codecs do not send "silence" over the line in order to save some bandwidth.
So when you start talking again, it takes the systems a few tenths of a second to realize its voice rather than noise and re-establish connection.
I recall you can change it so it remains open, just cannot remember where to set it up.

you can enable/disable silence suppression on a per-CODEC basis in

"ch ip-codec-set x

Ph0neguy - any more info on this topic? Perhaps some links where I can read more about this? Thanks!

This is what I did to get rid of this issue and to decrease echo.

I placed the IP trunk into a signal loss group that was a +6 when that station was calling across it.

My stations loss group are 2. My ip trunk is 18. When my calls go out over the IP trunks to a pbx in costa rica the loss setting is 6.

It stopped the speakers from cutting in and out, and got rid of my echo issues.

You may have to play with it a little to get it to your acceptance level. positive numbers decrease and - numbers increase.

Make sure they press mute when listening on speaker phone. Just sorted out our problem by pressing mute...try it

Make sure your up to the latest firmware on the medpro boards, there have been fixes in some previous released to fix speakerphone issues
