I have an English database (VFP and SQL) which needs to write some spanish reports from. Has anyone attempted this, and can oyu offer any advice as to what is involved?

I checked the Crystal site, and struck out.

Thanks in advance.

Pleas describe what is meant by a Spanish report.

Do you mean that you wish to translate English terms in the database to Spanish, or?

You should also specify the version of Crystal you're using, and the database/connectivity used.

My bad.

The preferred would be to convert existing reports in to spanish, and yes the DB fields would need to be converted.

I can use either 8.5- 9.0 or 10, as I have all 3 versions.

The database is a VFP running on SQL 2000. I connect with OLE DB.

Thanks.

If you're wanting to read about it in Spanish, try the Spanish page on their worldwide links. Knowing no Spanish, I can't comment on how useful it is.

If you want to make a report bilingual, you could do this by means of a single parameter that would change the text used in formula fields.

I don't know of a Crystal method for translating between languages.

Crystal Enterprise (the companion product for deploying reports) has a sample Spanish front end for launching the reports, however it does not translate english data to spanish, as in reading memo fields, etc.

What you are proposing is very significant in it's scope if I understand you.

A quick and dirty approach might be to use a freebie English<->Spanish translator, such as:

You might automatically export reports as text and run them through the page translation service as well, check out the link here:

Hi,
The only 'practical' way I can see to accomplish this would be to have 2 versions of the data available and to choose one of them based on the need..It will be easier to translate the English in the database than to do it 'on the fly' in the report..

Automatic translation programs exist, but their cost and 'miss rate' make them problematic.
