This is probably a silly question but here goes.

We are having problems in that mail both internal and external can take hours to get through.
If I ask users to clear down their unwanted mail, deleted items etc.. mail comes flying in.

The mail is stored on a 200gb drive and we are using about 6gb of this. There is the Virtual Drive M: that was created when exchange was set up that is 8gb and we use 4gb of this.

There is no policy in place restricting mailbox size that I am aware of, could this be a default setting in Exchange, if so how can I change this.

Why does clearing down the mail boxes seem to resolve the issue, and is there any way that we can move the M: drive onto the 200g.

Probalbly all silly questions but I am only learning.

In System Manager, right click on your First Storage Group, Properties, and move the Log files for your storage groups and the System Path Location to a folder on the big drive (just create the new folder and then browse to it). When it actually moves the log files, it will dismount all the databases.

Also, on the properties of the Mailbox Store(s), you can move those too if you haven't already. When both are moved, the M: drive (whick is a virtual drive) will reflect the new size)

Thanks for the reply, I checked what you suggested but they are all pointing to our D: drive which is the 200Gb drive. I have checked and all the log files are on this drive and the edb databases are there as well.

On the M drive it says that it is 8Gb, as this is a virtual drive set up by Exchange what happens when it reaches the 8Gb size, or am I completely missing the point here.

Any other suggestions.

so ALL of the databases are pointing to the big drive. Also the system path location? (for the storage group)

If any database in any storage group points to the small drive, the M: drive will reflect the small drive size. However, if your log files and databases are on the big drive, there should not be a reason for the small disk to get full for Exchange reasons. So your databases and log files will be able to grow to 200 GB (which I would not let them to), and the M: drive will still show the 8 GB space.
