SP4 Installation Problem

Ive encountered an error whilst attempting to install sp4 on Windows 2000 Server. On one particular machine the service pack completes the installation and proceeds to reboot as expected. However once the windows 2000 server splash screen appears the computer restarts and a continual loop is formed. The only way to get around this is to use the recovery process.

Any ideas on how i can get sp4 to install?

Start with booting into safe mode.
Right-click My Computer and choose Properties. Go to the tab Advanced and click Startup and Recovery. Clear the box that says Automatically reboot.
This way, when your computer boots up and crashes, it shows you a nice blue screen with an error on it. Please post the error message that you get here, then we can determine what the problem is/might be.

The error message that I am encountering is:
C0000135 Unable to locate dll.

Dynamic link inserve could not be found.

This problem only occured after installing SP4, by using the recovery console and Emergency repair disk I can restore my configuration and load windows. BUT next time any windows patch is applied to the pc I get the same problem.
