I have just installed SP3 release candidate. It works very well and I am inclined to continue to use it until SP3 final release is available. My question is: Can SP3 final release be expected to successfully install over the already installed release candidate version of SP3?

Thanks.

It works very well for me, as well (minus a couple of driver tweaks I had to repeat). I don't know the answer to your question, and I don't know if it's been said. But personally, I would deinstall the currently installed version before I would install any subsequent version. Besides, you want to keep the deinstall around in case you do run into problems.

And since we're talking about this, and I haven't thought to post this information here:

NEWS TIME!
Microsoft released publicly the release candidate for Service Pack 3 on 12/18/2007. As it is beta software, be cautious with it and don't go near a production environment with it, but if you want to play around with it...

The file is build 3264. It is 336MB in size.

Thanks for your thoughts, Glenn. It would appear that SP3 is a basically a consolidation of updates since SP2 was published. I tried SP3(RC1) but found that System Safety Monitor would not work (something about a missing driver). One hopes that MS security updates will continue to apply to my fully uptodate SP2 which is completely satisfactory.

Ive found a couple of glitches with it. One is the refresh feature. When you are looking at music, after about 5 minutes or so, it will refresh and yank the page back up to the top. It starts taking less and less time for it to refresh. Eventually it starts doing it about every 10 seconds.

There was another glitch but at the moment can not remember it. Will post it soon as I do.

Anyone had any issues with the networking on sp3?

I don't know about networking, since I haven't run it on that.

Coincidentally, Microsoft released another build of Service Pack 3 (Release Candidate 2) through Windows Update, Build #3311.

1) You need to be running Service Pack 2, so uninstall SP3 RC1 if you have the old public build (or any other build).
2) Download this script, which makes SP3 RC2 appear in Windows Update
3) Then download it off of Windows Update.

euston,
The release candidate is only intended for testing environments (as stated above). In addition, it will expire within 180 days and have to be removed. With those two points in mind, I wouldn't put any money on the final release having the ability to install on top of the beta release.
