Is there a way to get the SP2 HP print drivers on to a SP1 workstation?

the reason for this is a problem when trying to print throught SQL reporting services with the current HP 4100 driver the system will appear to be frozen when in reality it is writing a huge temp file and stops all other processes

What happens when you try to install them?

You could try updating XP to SP2 then seeing if you can install your drivers.

we can not update the the workstations to SP2 yet but we have found an incompatability with a piece of software and the SP1 version of the HP 4100 driver.
we have been informed that the SP2 version works but we want to just extract the driver and apply it to the SP1 PC
Is that a posibility?

Where would you be extracting this driver from, a XP CD or similar? It might be easier to download the install exe from HP to get the driver to install correctly.

The program that has compatibility problems, have you looked at running that in another compatibility mode, perhaps 2000?

Type - Getting older programs to run on Windows XP - in the Help and Support program for the basics.

You can set compatibility mode for NT service pack 5. Setting this mode may work especially as XP is based more on NT than 9x Windows.

How to Use Windows Application Compatibility Mode.

I agree with linney, you'd be best getting the latest HP PCL6 driver from the HP website.
