Some of the new seetings for the internet zone and trusted sites zone in internet explorer. If automatic prompting for active x controls is disabled and run active x controls is disabled the information bar pops on. But if automatic prompt is disabled and run activex is set to prompt then it will prompt, with no information bar. If automatic prompt is set to enable and the other settings are set to disable, the information bar still pops up. I have tried all of the combinations. The automatic promting setting dosent seem to have any effect at all.. It is very confusing. Is there a book or a web site that explains it in plain terms????

The same eratic behaivor is seen in the file download settings. Sometimes the information bar pops on and sometimes it dosent. It seems to depend on the download link one clicks. Where can I get the right information. All the microsoft pages dont seem to explian it very well.

Basicly what it boils down to is MS fixing their ActiveX issue by disabling it. (thus you are now to blame if you re-enable it and get compermised) you don't need those pesky helper files anyway, flash, java etc .. (yea riiiiiiight)

You've got 3 choices:

1) set all activeX environments to run (allow)
*may not be smart

2) Leave it alone (yes/no)
*will be a pain in the arse

3) do what I did and download/use Firefox and be done with it :)

Actualy I like the information bar. I just wish I could figure out how to controll it. I think one a controll has been downloaded onto the machene it will not prompt. However with file downloads like a wmv video file it will display in internet explorer as a bunch of garble, then the info bar will propt to allow the content, then it will play in windows media playey if you select allow. This is cool. It gives me the controll. But other content does not act the same. Some downloads are propted and some are not. I guess it will take time to figure it out.

One thing I really like is pwrtweeks for IE 5. It works in IE6 though. It adds a add to trusted zone on the drop down from the tols tab in IE. Lets me set internet zone to high security and trusted sites to low or custom. Then it is easy to add a site to trusted with just a couple of clicks.

I will check out the links you sent Thankyou.

Yes thank you linney,,,,, Some of those links were really helpfull. I have tried setting every thing to disable and prompt in the trusted sites zone and tweeking it as I add pages and sites to it. But some of the settings have turned outto be tricky. I am going to keep playing for now, And ill post my results in a couple of days. I useally discover things like that. Thanks for you help.....
