I have a sound card installed on my system, which widows '95 detects and installs fine,as far as audio-out goes (works fine with media players and RealPlayer). However, I wanted to use the Microphone, but no luck. When I went to control panel>system>soundcard, the sound card was identified as a Creative SoundBlaster AWE 16 -32, but was signed as "..not working properly, or drivers not installed..." Of the 10 drivers listed, 3 were identified as "not available..", but are correctly located in the Windows system folder. I've reloaded and re-installed from the '95 CD, but still no luck. I couldn't find the SB type listed on Creative Labs website either and tried their FAQ's.
Can anyone suggest what the prblem might be pls?

Here's the updated drivers:

The same update works for both the awe32 and awe64 - I don't have this card anymore, though I do keep archives of drivers for all hardware I have, and any I typically come across in the computer repair field. Makes life much easier for me.

Sound as if you have incorrect drivers intalled, probably your card is not actually the model Windows thinks it is. Many card will work to some extent with the SoundBlaster drivers but need their own drivers to be fully functional. You will have to physically identify the card and download the correct drivers from the manufacturers website.

Are you sure that the mike is not just muted or the volume turned all the way down on your software mixer? Double click on the speaker icon in the task bar and check your volume controls. I could be wrong, so don't hold that against me. At least I'm trying! I hope I've helped in some way........

Never mind what I said. I see where you have a driver problem. I should have read your post more carefully. Have you tried removing the device driver under System and restarting ypur computer and let windows find the soundcard and load the drivers? Somtimes this works. I could be wrong, so don't hold that against me. At least I'm trying! I hope I've helped in some way........

dakota81 (TechnicalUser)- thanks for the trouble taken to provide the drivers. I ran the update drv .exe file and then re-booted, re-installed and even tried some alternative SB card types. (hints of uninformed desperation setting in here). Perhaps have to try identifying the h/ware as per Mulga's sensible suggestion (but I'm an untidy person, and sorting out the mare's nest at the back of the PC cabinet, before I can get into the PC doesn't appeal.) I did try the 16-bit diagnosis .exe from Creative. This told me that"...the current MPU-401 MIDI port of your audio card cannot be used...". Have you any guidance as to what this means? Needless to say I don't have the manual, which the diagnosis then proceded to tell me to look up?
thanks in advance

Another option you have, is sound cards today are quite low cost, it may be worth while to just spend $20 and get a new sound card instead of trying to fix what you've got. From what you're describing, it's not too far fetched to say your card might be plain defective. It's your call if you want to continue trying to work with drivers or not.
