My brother and I just moved his computer from its Dell case to a new case, and everything appears to be fine except the sound isnt working. It uses a sound blaster live sound card that came with the dell. We can't get any sound out of it at all (through any of the ports), but twice we have turned on the computer and the sound worked for about 1 minute the stops (without us doing anything to it). I've already tried taking the card out and reseating it (twice) in another pci slot. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks alot

My best guess, if it's installed properly and you switch the card to another slot and reinstalled it. Then you probably have a damaged card on your hand.

Try completly uninstalling the software and the drivers for the card, switch the slot again and restart the computer. Install the drivers and software again. If it still doesn't work then it's most probably a damaged card.

Going on a wild hunch here...because I had that same issue with about 20 office computers a year or so ago...and wonder if you have an 'Unknown PCI Device' in device manager with the yellow question mark.

I resolved it by utilizing the Dell Resource Disk..and installing the drivers for the Intel 815 chipset.....worked ever since.....the 'wild hunch' is that your mobo utilizes the 815 chipset.

Good luck with it!

Cheers!
