I recently reformatted my computer to Windows 2000. It's not picking up any sound. How do I find out what kind of sound card I have? If I open up my computer, what and where should I look?

If you have onboard sound I would suggest using the installation CD that came with your motherboard to install the sound. If you actually have a PCI sound card you will need to take the card out and look at the manufacturer and then go to the manufacuter's website to download the appropriate driver for your sound card.

Oh? How is taking the computer to the tech shop going to save him "$$$$"?!
It costs nothing to open up the case and look for yourself..and you might just see it imprinted on the card.
If it is integrated sound, then longlivegoku is right. reload them using the CD that came with the motherboard.

Just open the case, where the sound plugs are at the back of your computer(mic, audio in, audio out, Joystick)You will see if its an onboard sound or not from there. There will be no card plugged in to a PCI slot on your motherboard if its onboard. If there is a card unscrew the retaing screw and take it out. write down any manufacturers name and any other nubers and go to their web site to get the drivers. or try once you know your card manufacturer.

P.S. if you you dont have a card installed and its on-board sound you should have the driver on motherboard CD disk. If your unsure....Dont do it!
