I just got a AMD XP 2000+ on a MSI K7 Master (MS-6341) and Win98 couldnt detect the SB at all. I had the onboard sound disabled, but now i have taken the SB out and am limping along with the built in sound. Please help.

I would suggest that first you first go to;
Start/settings/control panel/system/device manager/Sound, video and game controllers.

Once there, delete the entry to your sound card.

Reboot and windows should detect it.

If it doesn't;
Reboot and check your BIOS settings "WRITE THEM DOWN". Then quit out and turn the machine off, take all the cards out, disconect the power lead from the motherboard and clear the CMOS. PLEASE make sure you know what you are doing when you clear the CMOS.

Put the cards back, power lead etc. start up - This time the machine should detect the card.

Please let us know if it sorts your problem.

Regards.

What do you mean "clear the CMOS" and how would i go about doing that?

You need to reference your motherboard manual - it will tell you how to do it.

Basically, there is a jumper setting on the motherboard that needs to be adjusted. Once adjusted, leave it for 10 seconds or so and then put it back.

Here is the link to your mobo's support page;

The manual tells you how to do it - I would add that you should disconnect the power lead that attaches to the motherboard from the power suppy unit.

Regards.
