Let's say you grouped by ID, but you really want in alphabetical order by the name associated with the ID. Insert a second group on name and then either go to design mode and grab the group#2 in the gray area next to the report canvas and drag it so that it becomes group 1 or go to the group expert and use the arrow keys to toggle it into group #1 position. Then suppress the ID group header.
Another approach is to concatenate the name and ID field, and then group on this, but just display the name field.
