I've had my Vaio for about 2 years now, and haven't thought about replacing it.
I've owned compaq, Dell, HP, and just like the Sony better

However, as true w/ any Laptop I strongly suggest you spend a little extra on an extended warrantee

I carried one for about 6 months, and liked it quite a lot. I have in my practice about 4 of them in daily use. the only things negative I could think to mention:
1. Sony tech support for their computer products is just awful. They are essentially unreachable other than email, and too often you will get no reply or a reply a month later. There computer peripherals have the same problem of one of the industry's worst tech suppport divisions.
2. On a drop-able scale, this rates personally fairly low because of the size of the display and the relatively weak mounting points. The display size is one of its best features, just please do not drop it ever.
