Hi,

Hardware's not my strong point so I'd be very grateful for any help anyone can give;
When I power up my Sony VAIO it starts off normally, gets as far as the Windows screen (the one that's basically a box in the middle of the screen, telling you what version you've got), then it goes completely blank. It continues to boot up, but the screen stays blank. It works fine with an external monitor.

To be honest I don't even know where to start, so all ideas are welcome!

Cheers!

Sharon

The backlight or inverter may be bad.

More info would help...model number?, OS?, system specs?, when did this start??

try pressing f8 when the computer is starting and choose safe mode. If you comp starts on the laptop screen in safe mode then check the display Properties /settings/ advanced/monitor. There is an option for screen refresh rate. Drop it to the one just lower than the one it's on. Apply this and then restart the comp in normal mode.
Or you could be brave and remove the display adapter in the device manager and restart so XP reloads the display driver.

Hi,

Thanks for your help, turned out it was booting up in external monitor mode, pressed 2 buttons & it's all fixed! Good job, seeing as my monitors just blown! -I hate Mondays.
