IF it's out of warranty...put a meter across the power supply, or test it in some other way...use your imagination. I agree with the others if the factory warranty is in effect, you might want to send it in.
As an aside, if I were to return a personal laptop, I would remove the HDD and replace with another blank similar or exact model. Since this has nothing to do with your problem, it should not affect the warranty, and many times they just send out refurbs rather than fix your model.
Once something leaves your home you have no control over it. Best of luck.
