Hi all,

Just had a quick look at a Sony VAIO Laptop as the user said the screen isn't working. Under close inspection you can see that there is actually output on the screen but you can only just about see it because there is no 'light'.

I'm thinking that the screen needs replacing, what are your thoughts?

Thanks.

Hi,

Regarding the backlight combo key, would this remain the same even after a cold reboot?

The customer did say the screen has flickering prior to this problem and he used to move the lid back and forth to make it stop flickering.

Thanks.

No idea whether the on/off setting would survive a reboot - I assume not - but from what you describe it sounds like that isn't the problem. It could be something as simple as a loose wire but even if a part has gone you still don't need to replace the whole screen, just the inverter or the backlights. Check out that link I posted.
