Hi,

I am very interested in the Sony B1VP and at the price of £860 it seems very reasonable (compared to the sony style price of £939)
I basically want a fairly good laptop with capabiliaties both as a desktop machine and as a laptop. From reading various reviews it seems as if this laptop has a battery life of between 6-8hrs which seems good and i read somewhere that the 1.6ghz Centrino acted similar to a 2.8ghz P4.
The 512 Ram seems good and basically i want some techincal advice, is this laptop as good as it seems are there any large pitfalls in it?
Im not looking at playing power munching games on it, i want an efficent machine which is quick and not too pricey (dont we all)
So is this laptop going to meet my needs?
Also the port replicatori see listed in the "interfaces section" is this your standard PS2 keyboard and mouse ports?
Otherwise how do i make this laptop hook up to my existing keyboard mouse monitor etc... at home?
Cheers all,

Sounds good, but you may have to buy a "docking station". This is a larger base that you plug the mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc. in. My Gateway has all the needed sockets, plus a long slot to plug into a docking station. You would have to look at the unit to see.

Does anyone else have anything to say about the laptop?
It seems to fulfil my requirements as long as i can plugin my usb keyboard and mouse to make it "docked" instead of the expensive sony station (close on 200!)
Also as it only has 2 USB's would an unpowered usb hub be capeable of running the keyboard and mouse togehter? and then the 2nd usb being used as the printer?
Cheers for any help

I have just ordered one it seems to fit my needs ok, however after ordering (and payment taken) i realised that it dosnt have svideo out (and looking at the Vaio range not many seem to)
Is their any way to get a picutre out of it? i.e through Svideo or through phono plugs?

Hi.
As promised i am now following this thread up, i have now owned the laptop for 2 weeks.
I ordered a cheap usb mouse and keyboard, these plug into the usb ports and the monitor plugs into the vga out socket the laptop then operates as a base stations PC(on the floor!)
The laptop itself is very sturdy and has been taken out and about without any damage, battery life varies on games it lasts about 2.5> 3 hrs doing standard work it has lasted up to 4.5 hrs.
I found a way to get VGA out from it (this was using an "averkey" which converts VGA into svideo RGB etc...)
Games Tried

Doom 3 - Lowest GFX Setting - Runs GFX a bit jumpy in open areas but does run!
UT2004 - Works without a hitch
Need For Speed Underground 2 - Works fine on settings up to 1024 X 768

Basically for a laptop its amazing.
windows loads in about 40seconds (including login processing)
Erm.. any questions you have just ask
