Hello,

I'm currently looking into the interoperability between the SonicWall PRO1260 and Avaya IP Phones. Does anyone have any experience (positive or negative) in this combination??

Regards,

David

We have an Avaya IP system and a Sonicwall PRO 2040 in place in our main office, and it depends on how seamless you want to make things, initially we tried running 2 VLAN's with our DHCP server providing the relevant options to punt the phones into the correct VLAN, the Sonicwall doesn't allow the addition of options into the DHCP service so we ended up running DHCP on a different server.... in the end we set the phones up to have the VLAN configured and the rest of the services it picks up from the IP Office... (So DHCP is back on the Sonicwall for the data users)

...still at the moment we can't get our VPN to work, the DHCP server on the IP box gives an IP address to the remote user and so the user ends up on the wrong VLAN, this problem I'm still looking to solve...

(oh and SCN is a total PITA)

Regards
Dave

Ok Dave, thanks for your reply. Just to make things clear, you are using Avaya IP hardphones on the WAN side of the SonicWall and they're so called 'deep statefull packet scan' stuff is doing as it should, only opening up ports when necessary closing them after the call is ended?

Thanks again,

David

The IP phones are all based on the LAN side running on a seprate VLAN to the data over the same network.

(Still haven't sorted the VPN issue!)

Hi vtec

have you got just the basic pro 1260 or does this have the security suit. The security suit is the only thing that will cause you a problem. i have them working lan side with a pro 2040 and dhcp from the server all phones have a static ip address but i will run a test in this when i get back to the office because i dont use the ip phones
