One of my users uses a Cisco vpn client and now wants to start using the Sonicwall global VPN client to connect to another nework. Problem is that when he starts the Sonicwall client (the program, not the connection), he looses all network connections, and Internet Explorer refuses to start. He must reboot his computer to get his network up and running again. Any suggestins how to solve this problem?

Both the Sonicwall and the Cisco vpn client install their own services. I don't have either to hand at the moment, but from memory the cisco one is comething obvious like cisco vpn client service, whereas the sonicwall client is named slightly differently ... it might be Safenet client, or something similar?

I *think* I'm right in saying that both services can't run happily at the same time, so assuming your user has appropriate rights on the machine, the best thing to do is to stop the service that's not being used and start the other when necessary (eg, stop the safenet service and start the cisco one if he wants to use the cisco vpn client)

You could always script this up with batch files and leave copies on the desktop if this is going to be an issue. Also a third batch file to stop both services is probably a good idea. I suspect that if you stop either or both services, his internet and local network connections will be fine.
