Something's Going on with my Hard Drives?

I recently replaced my 1 gig master with it's 4 gig slave & fitted a 10 gig slave. All was well for a couple of weeks. However, as the drives filled up, strange things started to happen. First - the 10 gig slave's boot sector was reported as having altered (by Norton Disk Doctor, which said it couldn't correct it) - then - a week or so later - the same thing happened with the 4 gig master. Both drives now spend a lot of time "doing something" - sometimes for 20 minutes or so. The BIOS Setup has both drives set on Auto detect & as LBA. Surprisingly I have no difficulty in accessing my files. I intend to backup all the files & reformat both drives. The BIOS Setup has LBA, Normal & Large settings - is this where I should focus my attention?

Thanx

You should run a full virus scan. It's possible one infected your boot sector and was/is spreading. Justin

I think I've sussed what's going on. FDISK reckons that the 4 gig drive has an 800 meg partition & the 10 gig drive a 4 gig partition - the original configuration of my system. I transfered the files with Norton Ghost (Ghost.exe) - which seems to have placed drive images onto the drives which are less than the drives' formatted capacity. When the used space exceeded these images, first on the 10 gig drive, then, a week later, on the 4 gig drive, something began going on in the boot sector to sort out the problem - hence the drives frequently "adjust themselves" whenever they reckon it's necessary. Hmmm - at least it isn't a virus. I wonder if there's a program that could sort this out without me having to back-up everything and reformat the drives? My tape back-up machine isn't working at present (might never work again!). Ho hum - I'm gonna have to spend some dosh to sort this out -
