Hello, I'm posted this in the MS Windows XP Pro forum too -- the problem also occurs in non-MS apps).

Some fonts that I was using are still listed, but do not display properly. This has happened in MSWord/Excel 2002 and in Paint Shop Pro. One of the fonts is Raavi (raavi.ttf). I checked the MS KB, but didn't find anything that fit. Is the font file possibly corrupt? Should I try to reinstall the font?

p.s. The font was not installed as a custom font.

Hi Anne,

The font appears in the font list on the toolbar and under Format, Font, Font Tab (in Word 2002). The font appearance is now "generic" looking -- instead of how it used to look.
It also appears to be available in Paint Shop Pro (in the Text Entry dialog box). The font, when selected, does not display properly.

Oh, I understand what you are asking now (I think). I realize that if a font is not installed, and it exists on a previous document that it will not show if opened on a computer that does not have that particular font. For example, Joe creates a document using a font called SillyDilly. Joe sends the document to me. I open the document, and since I do not have a font called SillyDilly on my pc...it subs the font for display. That is not what is happening to me as the font is installed and used to work properly.

The problem is not specific to a particular document. It occurs in a new document or when trying to change an existing document. In a new document, I can type some text. Then try to change the font from say...GlooGun to Raavi...it stays at GlooGun...almost like it refuses to select Raavi.

* exclaims to self * "Well, DUH!!" I feel really stupid.

Anne, thank you so much for helping me trouble shoot my "imaginary" font problem. My mind has never been quite right and this is an example of it's tricks on me <grin>. We got a new computer a couple months ago and the font Ravie.ttf not Raavi.ttf is the font I was using. The name is so similar, but I didn't catch it until I booted up the old pc to take a looksie. 500 lashes with a wet noodle for me! Again, thank you for your help in clearing my mind of the cobwebs. BTW, thanks for the site heads up too...a site that will come in handy for me.
