I had a successful backup of my files and folders which includes a folder D:\ in my windows VERITAS NetBackup 5.1. Well thats what was reported on the status of my backups "successful".

I had reason to restore the content of D:\ to a differet folder but to my surprise the content of most of the sub-folders in the drive D:\ didn't restore. I went further from the Archive, Backup and Restore windows to drilled into those sub-folders that didnt restore. I noticed from the selection that those files never backed up. I don't really know the reason. What could be the reason? Besides I dont have any exclude selection in my backups.

What options do you have checked in the policy related to drives. Do you have the Backup Network Drives checked? Do you also have the Cross Mount Points checked? And lastly are you specifying only the D:\ in your include list or are you specifying the All Local Drives selection? I have read of issues with having both the cross mount points and backup network drives both checked at the same time on a windows client backup? Try and uncheck cross mount points if you have it checked and then run a test backup. Hope this helps!

Hi Ohws

I am working on default settings of NetBackup installation. I didnt check Network Drives or cross mount points. My include list is
INCLUDE C:\Inetpub
INCLUDE C:\MSSQL7\Data
INCLUDE D:\
I noticed that all backed up except some sub-folders in D: drive. So you are suggesting that I should have Network drives checked. Is that right?

I would definitely check the backup network drives box in the policy configuration as a starting point. Let me know if this has any effect on what you are backing up.
