I am a new user with an AIX background looking to learn more on Solaris. I have an old system Sun Sparcstation 20mp which already has a version of Solaris on it. Unfortunately I don't have the User-id or Paasword and would like to install ver 8 from scratch. Is there a way I can change the boot sequence without having to login. For eg pressing a function key during boot-up ???

Solaris Upgrade Question

If you're just gonna reinstall from scratch, just boot off the CD by:
1) hard reboot the system
2) after POST and the banner is displayed, press STOP-A (the Stop key + A key) if you don't have a head/keyboard on this box then just send a break with whatever terminal you are using
3) you should be at the ok prompt now, insert the CD and type "boot cdrom"
4) follow thru with standard Solaris install
Yes, you can change the boot order in the OBP via the setenv command and there's also a way to reset the password so you can login. But that's all moot if you're just going to do a clean install from scratch.
