I am in the process of building a Solaris 9 Master/Media Netbackup 5.0 server and was wondering a size consideration for the SWAP space on the box...

The server itself is a V440 w/ (4) 1.02 GB processors & 8GB Physical Memory. We currently backup about 2.5TB of data, but that will soon expand.

(4) DLT8000 drives will be connected to this box as well as (1) LTO2 drive (via scsi).

I was hoping someone might either have a tip sheet on how best to setup a Solaris server (Swap, etc.) or just have some good old expertise.

Any info would be much appreciated...
Thank you from a recovering former legato admin.

With Solaris 9, if you have RAM over 2GB swap is really not needed. The old general rule was to have 2x the amount of RAM for swap but that would be rediculous if you have 8GB or RAM. I would say if you really want swap, give it at least 1GB.

The same rule would apply to NT. SWAP space was important in the days where RAM was limited. No - In almost all O/S's, if you have excessive swap you actually get performance decreases.
