Greetings,

When I boot into the Solaris installation from the CD, the first step is to run the configuration utility. I press F2 to proceed with the hardware scan, and I am taken to the "Bus Enumeration" screen, whereupon I see "Determining bus types and gathering hardware configuration data...," followed by...
Entering boot debugger:
[c000:2dd7]:

The system will not proceed beyond this point... any helpful suggestions will be very much appreciated. I am attempting to install Solaris 8 onto an HP NetServer E50, which is on the HCL as being compatible.

Regards,

Steven

Aramis,
Do not use the Installation CD. Use Software CD 1 of 2 and from the OK> prompt, run "boot cdrom".

bfitzmai,

Thanks for your response, but when I boot from Software CD 1 of 2, I get the same results. I am attempting to install Solaris 8 on a blank server, no other OS is resident.

Is your software for Sparc or x86 systems. You must be using the x86 Software.

bfitzmai,

Yes, I am using the x86 software, since I am tyring to install Solaris 8 on an HP Netserver E50 machine (P2, 300Mhz).

bfitzmai,

Thanks so much for your efforts to help me with the Solaris / E50 issue. I didn't try going the SCO route, since my goal is to study and eventually earn certification on the Solaris OS. I decided to abandon Solaris 8, in favor of Solaris 10... and the good news is that Solaris 10 loaded without a hitch, although I have been unable to download any install documentation from Sun to help determine if my installation is entirely correct. When I try to download the Solaris 10 docs, I get a server error. I'll keep trying, and in the meantime my current installation will allow me to pursue my studies. Thanks again for your efforts... very sincerely appreciated!
