Good morning folks. I have what I hope is a fairly simple question, but I'd like to get it clear in my mind that I won't run into problems when I do the necessary work on Sunday. Basically, can anyone confirm or deny that the Solaris sparc 8_Recommended cluster available from Sunsolve is the most up-to-date version of the cluster and is cumulative in the sense that any level of Solaris 8 can be patched with it? I'm a little nervous because I go on holiday next week and I don't want to spend it on the mobile sorting out problems!! TIA.

Ken, may I suggest to patch the host AFTER the holidays?! ;-)

In Germany we say "ich habe schon Pferde kotzen sehen" (meaning "I have seen the impossible thing" - word by word "I saw horses spitting"): the Clusters available via are always the up to date versions (released) and can be installed on any HW Release (minor release - I don't need to tell you that the x86 patches aren't SPARC patches, but some other's may read this, so I write it...)

Have a nice trip! Where do you go to?

Best Regards, Franz

Franz, many thanks for that. I wish I had the option to do the patching after my holidays, but needs must or rather management must!

We're heading for Menorca a week today so hopefully all will be well by then and I can soak up some sun in peace. Many thanks for your best wishes, I'll have a beer for you!!

I installed the latest cluster patch 117350-25 on a few machines that were 117350-02, and had no problems. But the version before this one did break my Sunray servers. I also installed on a couple of machines that were in the 108528 kernel level and all seemed to go well. I guess the main thing is what kind of programs are on the machine you are patching?

Thanks for the input coffeysm. It's an Oracle (8.1.7.4) database server specifically a Sunfire V480R with three A1000 arrays attached. Nothing special as far as the OS is concerned. Given past problems with A1000s I thought it best to ask. I'm also applying the latest cluster patch to J2SE, so wish me luck.

Ahh I see I will wish you luck then, may the force be with you!! You can always back out of the cluster patch (hopefully) to in case something does go wrong.

Thanks for the good wishes. Seems like The Force was with me. All went well, so I'm now in wind-down mode! Thanks again.
