Hey,

First time installing and configuring Solaris 10.

What happened to the whoami command?
I use it to set my prompt.
alias cd 'cd \!*; set prompt="(`uname -n`)`whoami`:$cwd# "'

Now on login I get command not found.

Thanks

Yes it does.

I did install the core distribution if that matters

Now that I look into those directories I don't seem to have
a ucb directory under /usr

Sounds like your install was not Full Development + OEM. Not sure if Solaris 10 has that installation selection. I do know that you have to select that installation option for Solaris 9 and below to include the ucb subdirectory.

I reinstalled and chose the Developer distribution like I usualy do with Solaris 9. That did it.

I really dont understand why you would have to install DEV to use the whoami command, to me that makes no sense.

I guess one could have used who am i | awk '{print $1}' instead and saved a few hundred megabytes?
