software not downloadable from links on .cfm page

We have a strange problem here. Links on a .cfm page pointing to software executables are not downloadable. If you click on the link nothing happens. If you right-click "save as..." the dialog box appears, but never turns into the file chooser so you can choose where to download the file to. Apparently everything worked when the page was a .html page.

Any ideas anyone?

"Apparently everything worked when the page was a .html page" --> are you sure of this ????? if yes, maybe you changed some settings on the web SERVER (such as declaring the .cfm extension) which also changed the behaviour for the .exe or whatever
