How do you setup xp to allow users to install software but not give them admin rights.

Tleaf61

Make them Power Users.

You can give them power user rights, Click on start > Run > Type control Userpasswords2 > Click on the user you want to change and then Click properties. Click on Group Membership then others. In the dropdown box is a list of possible user groups - select power user.

Power users only works for pure Microsoft packages ie:.msi but some software out there needs pure admin rights to install correctly. I have tried power user to no avail.

How about if you made a msi package and then tried to let them install it as power users?

In another thread they suggested making the user an admin, installing the app., then changing the user back.
