Software compression turned off

I am running ArcServe 2000 SP4 on NT server 4.0 SP6 server. I have a full backup job running everynight and never fails me. I am starting to run into space issues and need all the compression I can get. I noticed that every 3 or 4 days the software compression that I enabled when I created the backup jobs gives way to the hardware compression that I did not enable. It's not a problem now but will be in the near future. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Thanks a lot.
