Software and 64 Bit Processor?

Hi

I'm considering one of AMD Athlon 64 Bit Processors (maybe 3400/3500).

Will this CPU work with all my current 32 bit software including XP Pro, as I've seen Windows XP 64bit software for sale, I'm a little confused by this?

If it does work with 32bit software are there still big gains to be had with a processor of this type, running older software?

Yes of course it works with both 32bit and 64bit O/S and applications.
There are no gains using 32bit O/S but then there are no losses either.
Obviously you would be doing the prudent thing, and preparing yourself for the eventual 64bit jump, no need to rush but you have it covered for the future.
