I’m trying to get soft phones up and running.
I believe I’m missing something obvious…

The system is a 406 V2 running 4.07 software.
I have licenses for both phone manager pro (25) and
Phone Manger Pro IP enabled (5)
In the IPO under User – Phone Manager –
I have Phone Manager PC Softphone selected
Under Extension, there is an VOIP extension created.
Allow direct media path is enable, so is enable fast start.
The codex is G729.

The PC is XP SP2, with the firewall disabled.
PC is on the same LAN as the IPO
Phone Manger Pro runs fine on the PC.
Under Preference – Phone Manger
If have checked Enable VOIP and Play Sounds.

The error message that I’m getting is “Failed to Register with IP Office for VOIP! Contact your System Administrator”

I thought it was something with the PC so I tried another one, also XP, but got the same error.

What am I missing ?

does your pc have a dhcp ip adres or a static ip adres

Make sure you are not trying to connect to a user that already had a digital port assigned to them. They need to set to VOIP for the phone manager type as well.

The PC is using DHCP.
The softphone is x260, it's definitely a VOIP user, not a DS user.

you are not using phone manager pc softphone ?
not possible i am affraid

When you created the VoIP User did you allow it to automatically create the VoIP EXTN.

Ive had it before when they have been created seperatly they will not work for love nor money.

I'd also check the ip Phone status in Manager. I've had a couple of cases where the PC softphone hasn't shut down correctly and de-registered from the IPO. Yuo can de-register the softphone manually from that screen too.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

I'd also check the ip Phone status in Manager

I actually meant SystemMonitor :)

After being escalade a couple of times with Avaya, I found my problem and wanted to share it with everyone.

1. The PC trying to run Manager as a soft phone needs the Com+ System Application service started. Normally this service is set to manual and not started.

2. I got a RFA 5 for Pro Manager Pro IP. I had 6 VOIP extension under the extension tab because I create one for testing. As Soon as I deleted the sixth VOIP extension everything started working.

Hopefully this will save someone else from losing all their hair.
