Have a customer using IP 500 V8.0 essential edition, who wanted to get the softphone app working (not flare).
Ordered and applied them the softphone licence and it doesn't work....

doing so with an 8.1 manager, with the lic applied, the users 'Enable Softphone' box is greyed out, have enable Softphone provisioning on the system but still nothing

Reading through knowledge base, 8.0 refers to either a Teleworker or Power User to work, I'm starting to think now the softphone licence is only available 8.1!?

if so is there a work around or are we forced to purchase additional teleworker licences?

All user licenses require Essential AND preferred license in 8.0 and 8.1

Westi, doesn't really help..

I know softphone is available on essential without preferred for both 8.0 & 8.1 , just need to know which licence I need for 8.0

Sorry, but no it isn't.

From the IP Office docs:

[q]Use of IP Office Video Softphone requires the IP Office system to contain the following licenses:
• System Licenses
For IP Office Server Edition systems, no additional system licenses are required. However, user licenses are required, as show below. For other IP Office systems running IP Office Release 7.0 or higher, the system must have Essential Edition and Preferred Edition licenses.
• User Licenses
IP Office Video Softphone can be used by user's who have their Profile setting set to Power User. The number of Power User licenses entered into the IP Office system's configuration set the number of configurable users, regardless of whether they are currently using the application. For non-IP Office Server Edition systems, the Teleworker profile and Teleworker licenses can also be used for IP Office Video Softphone. [/q]

I just ran into this on 8.1 - had to buy a power user license to get the softphone going.

was sure I'd read it somewhere, maybe getting confused that the softphone licence enables flare in 8.1 on essential

so in a nutshell, a customer on 8.0, with essential edition cant have a softphone application?

getting confused is really easy becasue Avaya changes their F$@#ing mind with every release.

As far as I know, no softphone on essential

Whilst not brilliantly named, in the description for the 8.1 softphone license it does clearly say it's for flare.

not arrogant, just succinct.

It's Avaya....A Softphone requires a Teleworker or Power User licence. And Flare needs a Softphone licence or Power User or (bizarrely) Office worker but not Teleworker, it's quite clear...as mud :)

I so wish they just left it alone and got rid of all this User Profile balls.
