Hi,

I'm thinkin about doing some proactive monitoring of our cisco routers and links. I'm looking for a snmp manager that do the job in a small WAN enviroment (5 to 10 routers).

I've read so far about:

SNMP check from solarwinds
CiscoWorks
WhatsUp Gold from Ipswitch
OpenView from HP

Have you tried out any of this? What would you recommend from a price/performance point of view?

Thanks in advance,
Regards,
-Hector

WhatsUp Gold isn't too bad, but don't run it over the WAN, it'll kill your bandwidth.
Openview is my personal favorite, after a 2.5 year evaluation that's what our company chose and we couldn't be more happy.
Solarwinds isn't that impressive in my opinion.
We're only starting to play around with CiscoWorks.

Ok, thanks for your opinion, i've heard a lot of good comments about openview, but i also heard that is a little bit expensive due to all the features it has.

I forgot to mention SMS from Microsoft, somebody told me that it can be use as a snmp manager; does anybody know something about this?

-Hector

I don't personally know that one...

Openview is on the more expensive side, but we went with a "best of breed" solution using Openview and Netcool.
