I run win2k with IIS and want to check my PHP scripts on IIS before I upload them to my domain host.

But I can't check the email function because SMTP won't start.

The event log shows that firstly ASCTRM doesn't start because it 'can't find file..'. What file?

Then one after the other MSFTP, SMTP and W3SVC don't start because '...can't register Administration Tool Discovery information...' , whatever that is.

Not that IIS IS working okay, in fact, whether I am connected with the internet or not I can still contact my local site on localhost and run all perl and PHP scripts.

Something wrong with my system. Any ideas?

Try uninstalling then reinstalling your network services smtp, iis etc.......-

Thank you guys.
It's been going on for yonks. Before I started to try checking PHP scripts.

The event ID is 105. Microsoft says this is because there is a network card and no network. They say it goes away when there's a network. They don't make clear if it should go away when you connect with the internet network.

They say for IIS 4 uninstall and reinstall netbios. But they say nothing for IIS5, which I've got.

I'll try the uninstall reinstall thing.
Get back to you. :)
