Hi,

I would like to know if there is a way to know the standard SMTP-server-name used by a certain client computer by reading a value in the windows register ???

Thank you....nick

If I understand your question correctly, you first have to know what mail application they use because the SMTP server is usually stored within some profile inside of the mail application.

Yes, you understand my question correctly.

I'd like to know this myself. Customers would have an attack of the vapours if I asked them for an smtp server.

I think bjd4jc may be correct. I can't find the info stored anywhere sensible. Peter Meachem

I've just been having a read on Symantec and found the following.

it examines the email configuration of the computer. It reads the value of

Software\Microsoft\Internet Account Manager\Default Mail Account <account id>

and then opens the registry key

Software\Microsoft\Internet Account Manager\Accounts\<account id>

or

Software\Microsoft\Internet Account Manager\Accounts\00000001 (If no default mail account exists.)

10. It retrieves the value "SMTP Server" from this key.
