SMTP relay by IP

Someone in my org has purchased a device that monitors other equipment. The device is capable of emailing him when an alert situation occurs. It appears that in order for this to work, I must change my SMTP settings to allow the device's IP to relay through my Exchange 2000 server.

I think I go to the props of the Default SMTP Virtual Server - Access tab - Relay button and add the IP there.

Currently, my settings are 'Only the list below' (the list is blank) and 'Allow all computers that authenticate....'

What are the gotcha's to doing this?
Thanks!

No gotcha's, it's the only way to allow it to work.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

Sometimes you need to stop and start the SMTP service on the server - maybe try that?
