Hi all,

I have just completed a new 2003 install on server 2k3 standard.

I am not using any smtp connector just the standard virtual server.

I can connect from the LAN to port 25 and I can connect from the Internet to port 25.

From the exchange server I can browse the internet and using nslookup "set type=mx" I can resolve hosts such as gmail. eg smtp1.google.com

The problem I have is that I cannot initiate an outgoing telnet session to port 25 on another server from my exchange server...

I do have a firewall in place but I have gone to the extreem of temp switching it off.

Does anyone have any advice?

Regards

Vince

What is your Internet connection? Sounds like your ISP is blocking outgoing Port 25 traffic. You will probably need to configure your server with a Smart Host and point that to your ISPs server.

if you have a static IP then your ISP should not be blocking you and you may just need to call them to correct the situation. If you are running on residential service then they will probably tell you to take a hike. The Smart host will get around that.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark,

Yes it was the ISP.

I rang them to arrange an smtp feed for the exchange server. They agreed after much persuasion as they wanted me to install a pop3 connector and continue to use their mailboxes. They then messed me about a bit when I asked about the outgoing port 25.

Ultimately

They had been blocking outgoing 25. They told me a day after configuring the MX records that it would take approx 24 hours to sort.

A very helpfull ISP...

I am now using a smarthost temporarily.

Thanks for the advice.

Glad to be of service.

I hope you find this post helpful.
