I have just setup notifications for smtp growth on each of our 3 exchange servers. The problem is that it isn't unusual to have a few emails (Mainly NDR's from spam) in our outbound queue. Obviously I don't want to be alerted about these emails in the queue. I believe I have it setup in the smtp virtual server to send a delay notification after 4 hrs and then timeout after 8 hours.

If I know I'm going to have some NDR's in the queue, how long should I set the smtp growth for based on the 4 and 8 hr limits above? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks!

It depends on average number of emails going through your server. You can monitor it for a week and get the picture before you set a notification. You can start with 200 messages per hour...and increase it if needed.
